.I would guess due to proximity that the 'mystery' pin keeps the extractor in place. Do you guys know where I can find an exploded view of my slide? Yes, you are correct, it holds the long extractor in place. It can be removed with a special punch available at Brownells I believe, which is a 7/64' with half the tip ground off to create a half moon profile. I fabricated my own by grinding half of the tip away. It can also be pushed out with a 1/16' punch, but I don't recommend that. Here is a link that may help (in the article, the phone number of Kathleen Randolph is given.

She is the training coordinator at SIG Academy. Call her and you too may be able to become a SIG Armorer): Here is the page from the SIG armorers manual (please note two (2) springs for the extractor, one inside the other). Did you click on the picture to enlarge it and look at the tips of larger ones? They aren't regular punches. The smaller are same design.

I don't know. I haven't tried to remove an extractor yet.

Those are typical roll pin punches, quite good, I might add. But they will not work for the application we are discussing. The hole that you access to drive the pin of the long extractor out is not round, but rather a semi-circle, half moon shaped, if you will. I'm not home now but when I get home later, I'll post a picture of what I am trying to explain. Yes, on the top of the slide, the hole is round. But you can't drive the pin out from this direction. The semicircle I'm trying to describe creates a shelf, of sorts, at the bottom of the pin, which prevents travel in that direction.

The pin has to be driven from the bottom of the slide and out the round hole at the top. Look at the link in my first post in this thread, these are instructions on how to work with the E2 style extractor. That may clarify, there's even a picture of the punch required.
