Also to get that cover off it requires removing part of the air intake. And the coils dont like coming out and can be a real prick to pull off the plug. Generally when you do the plugs (which is every 100,000km) you replace the coils as well (genuine ones are 40 bucks each).

I think the issues for Ford and other manufacturers are: a) dealers have the manuals online so there is no reason to produce hard copies for sale; b) Piracy is rampant with pirated CD/DVD copies of both factory and aftermarket publishers manuals on line (ebay)further reducing the likelihood of profit from selling paper or electronic copies; and d) they want a IP advantage over competitors in the car servicing business. I was for example able to buy factory workshop manuals for the EA, EF and EL series when the cars were still in production. I had both factory workshop manuals and factory parts manuals for my 1980 CM Valiant and 1980 LC Lancer that I bought immediately after picking up my new cars from the dealers. The engine in the FG is very similar if not the same as the few models before it. A final bit of advise, buy decent coil packs. I originally got some off eBay, and they quickly failed. Maybe I was unlucky, but I went through many warranty replacements with a different pack failing every few weeks over a six month period.
